The Core Layer Matters More Than You Think

Not all luxury vinyl is built the same. The core layer is what determines how it feels underfoot and how well it holds up over time.

SPC (Stone Plastic Composite). Denser, harder, and more rigid. Best for high-traffic areas, kitchens, and rooms with uneven subfloors. Most waterproof LVP uses an SPC core. Feels firmer underfoot, more like real tile.

WPC (Wood Plastic Composite). Softer and quieter underfoot. A bit more forgiving to stand on for long periods. Great for kitchens and living areas where comfort matters.

Most modern LVP brands offer both. Sylmar homes built on concrete slab usually do better with SPC because it handles slight imperfections in the subfloor.

If you want a softer feel in a living space or bedroom, WPC tends to win. Stop by the showroom and we'll walk you through the differences in person.

Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT): Stone and Ceramic Looks Without the Hassle

Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT): Stone and Ceramic Looks Without the Hassle

LVT is the tile-look version of luxury vinyl, and it has quietly replaced real tile in many homes across the Valley. The reasons are simple. It's fully waterproof. It feels warmer underfoot. It costs less to install. And modern manufacturing makes the surface look genuinely indistinguishable from real stone or ceramic.

We carry LVT in marble, travertine, slate, and ceramic looks, in plank and square formats, with grout-line options for an even more authentic finish.

Luxury Vinyl FAQs for Sylmar Homeowners

Luxury vinyl at our Sylmar showroom typically runs between $3 to $8 per square foot for materials, depending on brand, wear layer, and core type. Premium designer lines can go higher. Add roughly $2 to $4 per square foot for installation through our trusted contractor partners.

We carry Mohawk, Aladdin Commercial, Godfrey Hirst, Pergo, Shaw Floors, Daltile, Dreamweaver, Mannington, Anderson Tuftex, and more. Whether you want premium waterproof LVP or a budget-friendly wood-look option, we'll help you find the right fit.

For more on choosing a trusted local store, take a look at our guide on how to choose the best flooring store in Sylmar, CA.

Most single-room LVP installs finish in one to two days, depending on size and any subfloor prep needed. Whole-house projects typically wrap in two to three days. Our trusted contractor partners handle the job carefully and efficiently to keep disruption to a minimum.

Most modern luxury vinyl is fully waterproof, especially SPC-core LVP from brands like Mohawk and Pergo. Some older or budget LVP lines are water-resistant rather than fully waterproof.

If you're putting it in a kitchen, bathroom, or laundry room, ask us about fully waterproof options specifically. For more on engineered options, see our blog on the best engineered flooring for homes with pets.

Both are great, and they serve different needs. LVP is fully waterproof and softer underfoot, which makes it the better pick for kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and rentals. Laminate often feels more like real wood and can cost a little less. For bedrooms and living rooms, both work beautifully and we'll help you compare in the showroom.
